This is a textbook Burgundy from Mercurey, the largest and most important appellation in the Cote Chalonnaise between the Cotes de Beaune and the Maconnais.  Proprietor Agnes de Launay joined her father Paul in the 1990's and currently runs the Domaine. Made from a blend of four different terroirs totaling 7 hectares, the wine is a good introduction to the straightforward, rustic charm of the appellation. The grapes are fully de-stemmed, vinified with native yeast over 2-3 weeks, with malos completing by May or June. 40% of the wine is aged in cuve and 60% in2-5 year old barrels. Aromas and flavors or ripe, wild red and black berries evolve into complex notes of black olive and dried leaves as this wine develops and reaches its prime.
