ClosePlavac Mali (the parent or uncle of the Zinfandel grape depending on who you ask) translates to ‘small blue’ referring to the size and color of the berries. Lighter in body than a typical Zin, the Androvic comes from vineyards that are right next to the Adriatic Sea, providing the cool breeze that contributes to the bright acidity in this wine. The bouquet of wild mountain flowers and fresh berries are followed by darker fruit on the palate with earthy notes and some salinity. Aged for a few months in hand-made Slavonian Oak barrels, this wine opens up nicely and has a firm, tannic finish that’s amplified by the 14% abv. A versatile, old world red that goes great with lamb stew or a bowl of ghoulash from neighboring Hungary!
