Cellier de la Baraterie is helmed by Julien Viana, a young winemaker who took over the domaine in 2014 after studying oenology in Beaujolais, and now organically cultivates 10 hectares of vineyards of Jacquère, Altesse, Malvoisie, Gamay, and Mondeuse in the Savoie region of the French Alps. This is his Mondeuse, a lively, clean, and light bodied red that’s fermented with ambient yeast in stainless steel and bottled with minimal sulfur. Expect notes of fresh juicy raspberry and ripe forest berries with a distinct minerality and a dry, earthy finish. Pair with Tartiflette or grilled sausages and other summertime faire.
