CloseDomaine de la Roche was founded in 2019 by two friends, Charles and Mathieu, who met on the rugby pitch in Germany and returned to Beaujolais to transform the winery that’s been in Mathieu’s family for 5 generations, since 1926. This pure, fresh 100% Gamay is from their minuscule, 1/2 hectare, organically-farmed parcel on the granite ridges of the Régnié Cru, just north of Mont Brouilly. Fermented in stainless steel with some carbonic maceration, the wine rests for 8 months on the lees. Bright, wild berry and floral aromas lift the nose while the palate delivers crunchy red fruit flavors, crisp acidity, phenomenal minerality and moderately firm, dry tannins. This elegant, delicate red pairs wonderfully with crispy-skinned tangerine chicken thighs or sweet potato quinoa cakes topped with a blackberry salsa.
