CloseFirriato was established in the 1980’s by Salvatore and Vinzia Di Gaetano as a project to show the breadth and greatness of the Sicilian Terroir. They have three vineyards across coastal, hilly, and mountainous landscapes that are all certified organic. This red comes from vineyards on the active Mount Etna, and is made from 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio that ferment in stainless steel and are aged for 6 months in barriques. The wine is medium bodied with notes of dark cherries, cassis, and raspberry, packed full of volcanic minerality with grippy tannins on the finish. This wine pairs perfectly with Pasta alla Norma or with Sicilian pork and sausage ragu.
