CloseComing from a long family history of supplying silk to the crowned heads of Europe and the Louvre, Michele Alois decided to try his hand at winemaking in the early 90’s. He started by planting lesser known Italian varietals with help from the University of Naples, where he and his son Massimo work alongside scientists to analyze and preserve ancient and obscure grapes in Campania. Settimo is made up of sustainably grown Palagrello Nero and Casavecchia that macerate for 14 days before fermentation in stainless steel, producing a wine rich with aromas of red fruit, forest floor, and warming spice. Medium bodied on the palate, Settimo has firm tannins and a lingering, juicy finish. Drink alongside orecchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage.
