CloseThe João Pato wines are made of only indigenous varietals in Barraida, in an effort to truly represent this coastal region, named from the Portuguese word for clay, which makes up most of the local soil content. From certified sustainable (Sativa) 40-year-old vines of Baga (85%) and Touriga Nacional (15%), it undergoes a three-week long spontaneous fermentation in lagar and stainless steel without temperature control. The wine is then aged in concrete and 600 liter oak casks, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. Perfumed and elegant, with notes of dark berry, black cherry and plum, this medium-bodied red is both juicy and dry with firm tannins, lingering minerality and mouth-watering acidity. Delicious with slow-smoked beef ribs or baked chorizo with sweet potatoes!
