From the San Ginesio DOC in the Marche region of Italy, this sparkling red is made from at least 85% Vernaccia Nera, an indigenous grape that’s believed to be related to Grenache. Rocchi uses an extended Charmat fermentation for 6 months in which the CO2 is trapped in pressurized tanks to contain the bubbles (same method as Prosecco)! Delicious and refreshing, with ripe black cherry and blackberry, frothy bubbles, this wine has a lush palate and dry finish, with just enough tannin. Rocchi, though not as widely known, is an excellent alternative to Emilia-Romagna’s ubiquitous Lambrusco and an equally ideal companion for pizza, burger, or antipasti.
