CloseSixth-generation winemaker Eugene Carrel manages the Carrel vineyards, established in the 14th century, with his son Olivier and son-in-law Sebastien. The three tend to vines that grow at 1500 feet along the steep, rocky slopes of the French Alps. Despite the cold climate, the grapes in Jongieux enjoy 2-3 more hours of sunlight per day than any other area in Savoie, resulting in a pronounced ripeness to the wines made by Domaine Carrel. This selection is made up of 100% Jacquere, vinified in stainless steel tanks to maintain freshness. It’s medium-bodied, with notes of juicy pear, lemon zest, and white flowers, with a slight minerality to the finish. Drink with shellfish dishes or a semi-hard cheese like Beaufort or Comte.
