CloseThe Simčič winery dates back five generations to 1860 when Jožef purchased a farm in Medana. This 100% Rebula (Ribolla Gialla) is farmed biodynamically on marl, slate and sandstone soils that are influenced by the cold winds that descend from the Julijske Alpe (Julian Alps) while tempered by a mild Mediterranean climate to the south. Harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel tank, the wine rests for 6 months on the fine lees. Clean and bright with good weight yet a deft touch, the nose delivers ripe yellow fruit with a poached pear note and a touch of acacia, quince and marjoram. A silky approach on the palate yields to brisk acidity and a hint of salinity on the finish. This complex and harmonious white pairs well with pasta primavera but the Simčič family loves it with sushi.
