CloseWinemaker and co-owner, Erika Rácz, started Sanzon with a minuscule 0.3 hectare vineyard parcel she inherited in 2014 but has grown to a mere paltry 4 hectares over 5 vineyard sites in and around the town of Erdőbénye. Though Tokaji is famous for its legendary, sweet wines, Erika’s Classic Furmint is a great representation of a dry, modern Hungarian white. From steep vineyards on volcanic soil that are farmed organically, fermented spontaneously and aged no its fine lees for 8 months in large, used Hungarian oak barrels. A supple yet taut Furmint, it displays wet stone minerality and lemon zest on the nose with just a whiff of white flowers. The palate delivers tart apple, citrus and ginger flavors with a dash of salinity on the long, crisp finish. Pairs perfectly with tinned fish and toast or Baba Ganoush.
