CloseThe De Forvilles emigrated to Piedmont from Belgium in 1848 and established themselves in the village of Barbaresco in 1860; in 1907 Paolo Anfosso married into the DeForville family and took over the reins of the family business, but it was only in 1940 that they began bottling their own wines. This Barbera is made from vines that are about fifty years old, farmed organically, harvested by hand, macerated with its skins during a fermentation of several weeks in stainless steel before aging in large oak barrels for about 18 months. This classic, unpretentious red exhibits aromas of fresh red and black cherry, a hint of cocoa and clove with balanced acidity and a firm, earthy finish. Versatile and food-friendly, it pairs well with anything from gnocchi bolognese to a simple skirt steak or a mushroom risotto.
