Caol Ila is derived from Gaelic for "Sound of Islay" in reference to the distillery's location overlooking the strait between Islay and Jura. Caol Ila is one of the more elegant and most revered of the Islays. Medium-bodied with a rounded flavor and pale in color with a greenish tinge. This malt has a peaty nose, with distinct floral notes and tastes slightly of seaweed, with a smoky, salty, dry peppery finish.
