Gnarly Vines February - Wine of the Month Club Four Pack

NV Domaine Arnaud Lambert Crémant de Loire Rosé - Loire Valley, France (750ml) - $32
In 1996, at the ripe age of 47, Yves embarked on relatively late-life transition, back to his roots in Saumur, to create Domaine Lambert. Arnaud joined his father in 2005, gradually acquired more land, began the conversion to organic in 2009 and biodynamic in 2018. This rosé cremant is made in the traditional Champagne method from 100% Cabernet Franc from the estate’s chalkies, limestone soils. Fermented with native yeast, the wine spends 18 months in bottle with zero dosage before riddling and disgorgement. It’s clean, crisp and fresh with subtle red berry, biscuit and mineral notes with persistent, frothy bubbles. Pairs wonderfully with a mild, crumbly, Loire Valley chèvre, shrimp cocktail with horseradish cocktail sauce or a raspberry tart.

2022 Sanzon Classic Furmint - Tokaj, Hungary (750ml) - $29
Winemaker and co-owner, Erika Rácz, started Sanzon with a minuscule 0.3 hectare vineyard parcel she inherited in 2014 but has grown to a mere paltry 4 hectares over 5 vineyard sites in and around the town of Erdőbénye. Though Tokaji is famous for its legendary, sweet wines, Erika’s Classic Furmint is a great representation of a dry, modern Hungarian white. From steep vineyards on volcanic soil that are farmed organically, fermented spontaneously and aged no its fine lees for 8 months in large, used Hungarian oak barrels. A supple yet taut Furmint, it displays wet stone minerality and lemon zest on the nose with just a whiff of white flowers. The palate delivers tart apple, citrus and ginger flavors with a dash of salinity on the long, crisp finish. Pairs perfectly with tinned fish and toast or Baba Ganoush.

2022 Maison Noir O.P.P. Other People's Pinot Noir - Willamette Valley, OR (750ml) - $25
Maison Noir was founded in 2007 by André Hueston Mack, the first African-American to be named Best Young Sommelier in America by Chaine des Rotisseurs which led to stints at the French Laundry and Per Se. His micro-negociant, garage wines are grown on Other People’s Property, and are a reflection of his irreverent, unfussy attitude towards wine subculture. Uber-authentic and true to its roots, OPP is a textbook Willamette Valley Pinot that stylistically straddles Burgundy and California. It’s light-to-medium bodied with clean, fresh berry and plum flavors, silky with soft tannins, moderate acidity and subtle earthy and herbal notes on the dry finish. Pairs perfectly with poultry and pretty much anything that’s Naughty by Nature.

2019 Mr & Mrs Theo TO - Rhone Valley, France (750ml) - $20
T.O., the flagship wine of Mr & Mrs Theo, is a biodynamic blend of 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah from two vineyards in the Drôme, just east of the Rhône River, one with sandy limestone clay soils and the other with predominantly granite pebbles. Maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeast takes place in fiberglass tank over 18 days followed by 18 months in stainless. The result is a rustic, natural Southern French red that emphasizes red and black fruits, while maintaining the character of their soils which impart spice, lavender, garrigue and an earthy minerality. Medium-bodied with balanced acid, moderate tannins and a whiff of funk, it pairs well with kebabs and caillettes (French pork and leafy green meatballs) or Le Saint-Nectaire, a nutty, slightly pungent, soft cheese from Auvergne.
