Agave Marmorata or Tepeztate is a mystical and sacred Agave that takes up to 35 years to mature before harvest. It grows on steep slopes with rocky soil, occasionally even hanging from cliffside rocks that make extraction extremely difficult. Tepeztate Mezcal production is a small and honored ritual in San Baltazar Guelavila, and makes for a beautiful, terroir driven Mezcal that showcases a lifetime of environmental influence on the plant. The palate is complex, wild and earthy, with notes of mushroom, sandalwood, and leather, balanced by delicate florals and bright agave fruit, and finishes with a pronounced rocky minerality.
