Morocco

has an ancient wine-making tradition dating back over 2000 years and more recently refined during French colonization. These vineyards are located to the south of the imperial city of Meknes at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains.

2005 Les Trois Domaines, Guerrouane Rouge
A blend of Carignan, Cinsault and Alicante-Bouchet, this is the ubiquitous table wine served at almost every Parisian couscous restaurant. Smooth and easy.   The Appellation Guerrouane is a region of northern Morocco, located south to the imperial city of Meknes at the foothills of the atlas Mountains in between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediteranean Sea. This area has been known for producing wines for more than 2000 years at the times of the roman empire. (Related: 2007 Les Trois Domaines, Guerrouane Rouge )

2005 Amazir, Beni M’Tir
A deeper, darker, more tannic and more ambitious version of the Guerrouane. Also made from Carignan, Cinsault and Alicante-Bouchet.

2006 Raats, Original Chenin Blanc, Coastal Region
A crisp, clean unoaked version of SA’s signature white grape.

2005 Brampton Cabernet Sauvignon, Stellenbosch
The second label of the highly-regarded Rustenberg winery. Classic Cabernet at a very reasonable price.

2004 Thelema ‘The Mint’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Stellenbosch

Among SA’s most acclaimed Cab’s. A world-class wine with intense, yet balanced with ripe cassis flavors and delicious eucalyptus notes.

Seven Sisters

2007 Seven Sisters ‘Odelia’ Bukketraube
A rare, off-dry, tropical white wine made from an ancient yet obscure German varietal.

2006 Seven Sisters ‘Dawn’ Pinotage/Shiraz
A full-bodied, deep, ripe red made from SA’s signature red with a healthy boost of shiraz to round it out. (Related: 2007 Seven Sisters ‘Dawn’ Pinotage/Shiraz )

2007 Seven Sisters ‘Twena’ Sweet Rose
A light, sweet, easy-drinking rose made form 100% Pinotage.

Seven Sisters Winery, Western Cape

A fascinating story of seven South African sisters whose family was splintered during apartheid but reunited twenty years later to create this heroic winery. They produce seven wines, each carefully selected to match the style and personality of each sister. Click to see their story on Youtube

Bubbly, what else?

See below for our entire list of Champagne and sparkling wines with vivid, informative and at times irreverent descriptions.

But first, please ring in the New Year with us at the Pratt Whistle Blow. Somehow, this world famous event has managed to elude many locals…until now:
THE PRATT WHISTLE BLOW – DON’T MISS IT!!!

The event that literally blows Times Square away. Who wants to see a gaudy crystal ball mechanically lowered when you can stand in the middle of Pratt’s campus, drink Champagne and watch Conrad Milster, Pratt’s Chief Engineer, blow his old steam whistles from trains and ships of days long ago? At the stroke of midnight, the pent-up steam is released, gloriously screaming through the old whistles in what can only be described as orgasmic while voyeurs pop corks of their own. For Times Square to come even close, the ball would have to plummet in an earth-shattering… you know what:-)

Check out a clip of the whistle blow on YouTube. Based upon what I’ve heard from neighbors who’ve been there, this doesn’t do it justice, but it’s all we’ve got:
