Morocco

has an ancient wine-making tradition dating back over 2000 years and more recently refined during French colonization. These vineyards are located to the south of the imperial city of Meknes at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains.

2005 Les Trois Domaines, Guerrouane Rouge
A blend of Carignan, Cinsault and Alicante-Bouchet, this is the ubiquitous table wine served at almost every Parisian couscous restaurant. Smooth and easy.   The Appellation Guerrouane is a region of northern Morocco, located south to the imperial city of Meknes at the foothills of the atlas Mountains in between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediteranean Sea. This area has been known for producing wines for more than 2000 years at the times of the roman empire. (Related: 2007 Les Trois Domaines, Guerrouane Rouge )

2005 Amazir, Beni M’Tir
A deeper, darker, more tannic and more ambitious version of the Guerrouane. Also made from Carignan, Cinsault and Alicante-Bouchet.

2006 Raats, Original Chenin Blanc, Coastal Region
A crisp, clean unoaked version of SA’s signature white grape.

2005 Brampton Cabernet Sauvignon, Stellenbosch
The second label of the highly-regarded Rustenberg winery. Classic Cabernet at a very reasonable price.

2004 Thelema ‘The Mint’ Cabernet Sauvignon, Stellenbosch

Seven Sisters Winery, Western Cape

A fascinating story of seven South African sisters whose family was splintered during apartheid but reunited twenty years later to create this heroic winery. They produce seven wines, each carefully selected to match the style and personality of each sister. Click to see their story on Youtube
