Milam & Greene's Indiana Rye whiskey is brought to Texas where it's aged in their warehouses and finished in Port Wine Casks. The Texan sun influences the rate and strength of flavor imparted into the whiskey. Some casks take longer than others. Their team tastes the whiskey regularly until the optimal flavors are achieved. The mash bill consists of 95% Indiana rye and 5% malted barley chiseled down to a muscular but not massive 94 proof. Deep gold with ruby inflections, the nose reveals cinnamon, cacao and hint of dark dried fruits like black currant, blackberry and fig followed by a rich, warm, leathery finish. Sip neat, with a rock or in a Port Rye Manhattan with Angostura and black walnut bitters.
