CloseNamed after Teddy Roosevelt’s First US Cavalry, Rough Rider Bull Moose Whiskey is produced just a few miles from where they were stationed in Montauk, NY. It has a mash bill of 93% Long Island Winter Rye and 7% Malted Barley. The three part maturation begins in New American Oak casks where the Rye Whisky takes shape with its resolute spicy sweet cinnamon flavors. When the time is right, the Rye Whisky is moved to casks that previously held Straight Bourbon, allowing the flavors of Rye and Bourbon to mingle, before being transferred to its third and final resting place, ex-Pine Barrens Single Malt Whisky casks. This three barrel rye whisky is angular and robust with notes of dried apricot and leather that are complemented by hints of vanilla and orange peel with a touch of maple on the finish. A great base for a classic Old Fashioned or better yet, a muddled dry fig version with a few drops of barrel-aged balsamic vinegar. - JS/bjr
