2016 Maison L’envoye Fleurie Gamay Noir Chateau Vivier Monopole - Beaujolais, France
From one of the oldest monopole plots in Beaujolais named ‘Chateau Vivier’, Maison Envoye produces an honest and elegant 100% Gamay. Half of the fruit is destemmed and fermented in open-top vessels. The other half is whole-cluster to enhance the floral notes distinctive of Fleurie (which translates to floral French). The wine is aged in second use oak barrels for 11 months before bottling. Vibrant aromas of wild strawberry combine with subtle nutmeg and clove spice notes on the nose. The palate has a silky texture with lively acidity and restrained, but beautiful fruit flavors. It matches perfectly with a roast chicken with Herbes de Provence.
