Satoh Shochu - Satsuma Domain, Japan (720ml)
You might not be surprised to learn that Shochu, a Japanese distilled spirit typically around 25% alcohol originated in the southerly island prefecture of Kyushu, is also home to Japan’s most active volcano. Shochu is typically made from rice, barley, sweet potatoes, soba, or brown sugar. Satsuma’s Satoh offering is distilled from 60% Sweet Potato and 40% Rice. Richly aromatic and flavorful, this Shochu is meant to be served with equal parts hot water. Classic pairings include soft-shell crab, oshinko-maki and unagi-don but more and more people are enjoying shochu with less traditional fare like Tapas and Pintxos.
